“Naniwo imasara gutaguta yuutennen” (“Why are you complaining now!!” ) That’s my true feeling described in Osaka dialect. Most Japanese citizens are aware about the new national stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic is becoming a rather controversial topic. Many people disagree with the idea and say things like “it’s too expensive to make”, “it’s too big” or “it’s difficult to make” on TV shows.
My feeling about this is that I completely disagree. The architects who are unhappy with the proposal, they need to realize that the design has already been decided by the open competition and The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympics have announced that we will make it.
So, stop bickering. Rather, we think forward about how to make it with sensible budgeting.
In car design world; yes that is my current job, the design competition is very popular.
Also, it’s not rare that after choosing winners sketch, a lot of issues are occur in terms of the cost being too high and it’s difficult to make it, then we re-start new design and in worst cases, we have to stop the development altogether.
But since the new national Olympic stadium issue is different from the car design competition. It is difficult to completely understand and sympathize.
It’s easy to say that it’s open competition and The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic has already announced that we will make it. People around world has seen the final sketch already. Regrettably to say, no one became a leader who has power to get the final say.

In fact, current ‘low budget’ sketches look tasteless and very boring. In addition, Zaha Hadid’s first creative sketch isn’t even incorporated in the second design. It makes no sense to me.
This blog is easy to understand about how poor the current design is
Kenzo Tange who designed the Yoyogi gymnasium at the time of the Tokyo Olympic in 1964 went for direct negotiations to Kakuei Tanaka who was the Minister of Finance in those days and he tried to get an additional budget.
Anywho, I think only thing The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic should do is to ask Zaha Hadid to help and think about ways to keep the
original idea, because they chose her idea. Of course, not let the noise get into her head.
The modern artist -Takashi Murakami quoted “ Creating future art needs talent , insanity and money” and I totally agree with his opinion.
