Kawaii is getting popular all over the world

"Kawaii culture will be a world wide movement beyond the Japanese sub-culture!"  I felt this sense of assurance after  Kary Pamyu Pamyu's live in LA last week. Of course, I don't think it will be  main stream, but it's just a matter of time that Kawaii culture will be popular among young people in the world like Manga and Japanimation(Japanese animation) and it will take root as being one of the fashion style NOT just a transient popularity.

Kyary is an artist who has a clear concept of expanding Harajuku Kawaii culture. She is also known for new style artist with distinctive her view of the world that she creates an aura of not only kawaii(cute) fashion, but also grotesque and funny. This just twenty years old new artist has already become an icon of Japanese Kawaii culture and she is holding her world live tour and getting young people all over the world frenzy.

As she said herself, her live performance is full of charm that is new value with mixture the kawaii fashion and pop music. I feel it when she explains about her costume with her full smile and she changes her costume so many times to make the audience happy. Also, enthusiastic American fans of Kyary wore Kyary's costume and their original Kyary-like dress and their amazing costume brightened up the live scene. This movement happened not only in America, but also in Europe such as Belgium and London and in Asia such as Taiwan where she visited through her live tour this time. It's about time that the Harajuku kawaii culture that was born in the 80's starts blooming by Kyary all over the world.

You can see how excited Kyary-lovers in abroad are were in the interview at the live place. In England, people admire her distinctive style like "She has her own style and is cool" and  "She is expressing what she likes which makes her cool". In France, people admire her kawaii fashion that is never seen in France like "Her fashion is so colorful and kawaii" and "She is an icon of Harajuku culture and which makes her kawaii"

It's been only two years since she made her debut, but now, there is no doubt that she is the most popular artist in Japan. The promoter that she belongs to is small, so she couldn't do a big promotion activity, but her distinctive character & fashion were spread immediately through the internet media such as You tube and i-Tunes and then this movement has reached to mass media like magazines and TV.

There are some other girls group in Japan such as AKB48 and Momoiro-clover-Z and they are really popular. However, I have a doubt whether they will be accepted in the world or not, because they focus on domestic Japanese people. Compared with them, it's easy to understand that Kyary eyes the global market from the beginning. I mean that it's her distinctive and easy to understand fashion called Harajuku-kei. In addition, her art director Sebastian Masuda's guro-kawaii(grotesque and cute) promotion video and her catchy song written by Yasutaka Nakata that includes Japanese instrument and Japanese video game sound to emphasize more Japanese taste. These factors are easy to catch for people who live abroad. What is more, her dance is also catchy and people enjoy even though they can't understand Japanese. Her kawaii-fashion is accepted as completely new stye that has never been there, especially in  fashion advanced countries such as England and France.

Normally, many artists who become popular suddenly , they tend to get carried away and act like a celebrity, but I think she is NOT a person like this, because she has a solid determination of her dream as an artist and concept. Also, a lot of professional staffs around her are doing amazing jobs to make her better.

I hope she's going to keep doing her best for Kary-lovers in the world. Kawaii has already been as a world language and I hope she will spread this Japan-original culture more as a real-icon instead of great Kawaii-leader Hello Kitty.
Then, I look forward to watch this movement spreading all over the world.
